Vasles Sheep Village is situated 45 minutes from Marais Poitevin and 30 minutes from Futuroscope, between Parthenay and Poitiers.
Here, you will find twenty-three breeds of sheep from all over the world living in pens and enclosures that recreate their natural surroundings amidst 15 acres of wooded parkland.
Visitors can take a self-guided tour using headphones - available in English, Spanish, German and Dutch.
Demonstrations of sheepdog trials, wool-carding, spinning and weaving are on show. The shearing and sorting of the fleece is explained and displayed. Lamb feeding is on offer for the younger visitors.
Included in your tour is a visit to the farm on site “Bergerie Fromagere”, for a guided tour of the cheese production unit and sample the “Tome” cheese made from local ewes milk which is available for purchase.
In the main building can be found an exhibition of wools and traditional manufacturing techniques from around the world, including articles for sale such as sweaters, socks, scarves, rugs and ornate wall-hangings. Also a local produce stall selling foie gras, preserves, soaps, candles, pottery and local literature.
In the grounds is a sheltered picnic area, a fantastic childrens play area, toilets, free parking and free camper van parking. The restaurant is open during July and August.
