16th edition of The Chestnut Festival of MourjouFièira de la castanhaSaturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd October 2005
Each year the village of Mourjou (self-named chestnut capital of Europe) transforms into a vast chestnut market and festival.
Mourjou is situated in the southern part of the Cantal department in an area that was once largely covered by oak and chestnut forests. It has 360 inhabitants and welcomes 20,000 visitors each year to the festival.
3 tonnes of chestnuts are roasted and 6,000 litres of cider are consumed over the weekend. The festival offers entertainment, a convivial atmosphere and a wonderful chestnut market with 100 stalls.
